Unlock a User’s SCRIBE Account

A user’s SCRIBE account will be automatically locked after three unsuccessful password entries.

  1. In SCRIBE, click Tools > User Management.

  2. Click View next to the user.

  1. Click Edit under the User Details tab.

  1. Under Is Locked, select No.

  1. Click Save.

  1. Confirm with the requester that the account is now unlocked. Remind them that they will be locked out after three unsuccessful password entries, and that they can click the Reset Password link under the SCRIBE log in to reset their password and avoid getting locked out.

Note: The user will not receive an email from SCRIBE. They should log in using the username and password they have been using. If they forgot their password, reset it (see directions below).

Reset a User’s SCRIBE Password

  1. In SCRIBE, click Tools > User Management.

  1. Click View next to the user.

  1. Click Generate New Password under the User Details tab.

  1. SCRIBE will send the user an email with a temporary password and a link to log into SCRIBE where they can set their new password. It is a good idea to let the user know to expect an email and to check their spam folder if they don’t see an email from SCRIBE soon.

Tips and Troubleshooting:

  1. If the user has received the email from SCRIBE but says SCRIBE is not accepting the temporary password, make sure they are not accidentally including a space at the beginning or end of the password, a common mistake if using copy and paste.

  1. If the user has not received the email from SCRIBE and it is not in their spam folder, try generating a new password again.

  1. If the user cannot log into SCRIBE with the temporary password or has not received the emails from SCRIBE, set a new SCRIBE password for them (see directions below).

Set a New SCRIBE Password

Sometimes it is necessary to set a new password for a user (new or existing) because they have not received the reset password email from SCRIBE or because they are having continual difficulty entering the temporary password in the SCRIBE email. In this case, you can set a new password for the user (something simple like GEARUPfall2019$ or PumpkinSpice2020# but be sure to assign every user a different new password). Encourage the user to change their password once they log in.

  1. In SCRIBE, click Tools > User Management.

  1. Click View next to the user.

  1. Enter a new password under New Password and Confirm New Password

    1. Make sure the Send Email Notice box is checked.

  1. Click Change Password.

  1. Respond to the requester giving them the new password you have set for them. Be sure to send the password through the Help Desk ticket so the message is properly encrypted and protected. Encourage them to reset their password once they have logged into SCRIBE by going to User > My Account and clicking Change Password.
